Seeing Shows

I love theaters on Colfax Avenue in Denver. There's the Fillmore, the Ogden, and the Oriental. I've been to them all. I love them because Colfax is the gritty part of town, where you no longer run into 40-year old women with too much money and time to blow due to their recent divorces who are trying to drown their sorrows with margarita mix and Broadway music. No, the theaters on Colfax are where one journeys to see rock concerts.

The local/indie-underground-you-have-to-be-a-hipster-to-know-about-them bands play the Oriental. It's this dingey little place with an ok stage but a sweet sound system. I went to a rave there once. The bigger bands play the Ogden Theater, which is where I was last night, moshing my heart out to Fun and Panic! At The Disco (pictures here) But the super huge bands go to the Fillmore. Ke-dollarsign-ha played there, so did Green Day, and Tech N9ne is coming on Saturday. There are purple chandeliers there, and my friend plays roller derby there every Friday.

Out of all concerts, summer concerts are the best concerts, if you ask me. And I've been to quite a few concerts.
You leave the theater trembling because the sound guy mixed the bass was way too hot, and you can still feel each note thrumming through your chest like it's trying to cancel out your heartbeat. I love that feeling. Your body sways slightly as you move because you had grown accustomed to moving with the crowd inside, and left on its own, your bones are inclined to continue doing so, even when the crowd has gone. You stumble, half-deaf, through the streets trying to find your car and to anyone who doesn't know the experience that you just came out of, you look like a mental patient looking for crack. I love that feeling too.

Anyway. I'm rather excited for the rest of the shows I'm seeing this summer :) I know I'm not the only musical soul-child out there, you guys know the way concerts kick ass.

Happy cupcakes,
Julia

  4. Yay! You're back! Want me to throw you a really big party? Like, with balloons and birthday cake and ice cream? We could even get birthday cake ice cream, if I'm in the mood to splurge.

I want to go to a lot of concerts this summer. I hate crowds and loud noises, though, so hopefully I'll find one like that of the Fleet Foxes, who performed one of their concerts sit-down and with goats on the stage.

    Lovely hat.
