Pointe Shoes And British Airplanes

Fun fact time!
I used to be a ballet dancer.

Seriously, I danced with a company for a long time. Then I started doing competitive dancing (which ended badly), then I started teaching kindergarteners at a little private studio, then I just sort of stopped for a while. I've done a few summer workshops, but that's about it.

To be honest, I really miss it. I feel like I'm losing my ability to be graceful. I still have subscriptions to several dance magazines and everytime I'm bored I find myself watching videos from the Vaganova Academy on Youtube. I think I might get back into it again, since I have time now... I don't know.
But every time I start randomly jamming out to a song on the radio, whatever buddy I happen to be hanging out with always gives the same sort of comment: "Wow, I didn't know you could dance"
Well, buddy, I'm starting to doubt that I can.

Here, have an old picture:

I can't even remember what production this is from... it was like 2 years ago, and all I remember is that we had to dance with fake candles. Yeah...

In other, slightly more exciting news, I'M GOING TO LONDON TOMORROW! I'm fucking pumped. After a few days in London, we're moving on to PARIS. That's right, hot British boys and hot french boys for me. Yeah, be jealous. Just kidding. I'm jacking my sister's camera (yeah, the 8 year-old got a brand new digital camera for her birthday. Do you know what I got for my 8th birthday? A Harry Potter book and some socks. Fuck my parents. Just kidding..) and you can expect some pretty fantastic pictures.

And if I die or get kidnapped by the French mafia, please know that I love all your faces!

Neighhh? (the sound a seahorse makes)

PS: I would like you all to know that I have Pokémon bedsheets, and they are fantastic.

Drinking Cranberry Jews

I have been a very good girl for the past few months. I have not smoked, drank, pill-popped, tripped, screwed, or scammed for a good 2-3 months. I've been virtuous and polite, academically oriented and scholastically committed. I've been an upstanding moral citizen. I've been so good, and God was it boring.

So last night, I went to Denver with Blonde (who is no longer speaking to Brunette, score!) and we hung out with a whole bunch of gay college kids. There was beer and tequila and lots of weed and I could not help but partake of the illegally distributed fun. I got pretty twisted (which, for you straight edges out there, is when one is both drunk and high at the same time) and got hit on by a 21 year-old named Cody.

Also, in my drunken stupor, I began texting a certain Manwhoreboy, with purely friend-oriented advances, really, except he proceeded to tell me about all the girls he's had sex with since me and that he wants to try to have a relationship with me, but he wants to start slow. I turned the motherfucker down, politely, but it was hard to reply without any "haha"s or "lols"s because, honestly, what the hell is he thinking, telling me about every girl he's gotten in the sack and then asking for me back? Does he think it's romantic to tell me I'm beautiful at 2 am in some text messages and that he wants to see me again?
No, Mwb, even though I was so drunk that I could barely see straight, I still didn't want to see you again.

Ha.
Ew.
No.

Anyway, I'm rather glad that I broke my "good" streak. I think my life was boring because it was devoid of substance abuse and boy drama. Luckily, things are picking back up again and I now have time to get into shenanigans. Oh, delinquent life, I missed you.

Behind A Building On 14th Street

I finished 'The Fountainhead' by Ayn Rand today! I am so proud of myself. That book is less of a book and more of a brick if you know what I mean.

On Saturday, I completely surprised Now with a spontaneous trip to the Denver Aquarium. We walked through the windy pathway of fish tanks marvelling at colorful, fat, large-eyed, exotic fish. It was more romantic than it sounds. He liked the giant turtles, but I think the sharks were my favorite. I've always really liked sharks, ever since I was little, is that weird?

Afterwards, we went to a diner and I had the best bean burrito EVER. And I have a serious passion for burritos, I can be pretty high-falutin' about the burritos I consume. This burrito was Jesus.

When we finally got back to Boulder, we had an hour to kill before my bus home was due to leave, so we kind of explored the neighborhood surrounding Pearl Street. It's mostly business buildings and private companies and the occasional methhead, nothing too exciting. But behing a building on 14th Street, we found a mural that some graffiti artist had painted. It was of a woman picking fruit out of the sky. I love street art, and this secret mural was totally the reason why: beauty in the weirdest places.

And that got me thinking about beauty in general, which led to a series of epiphanies which I won't bore you with, and basically the final result is that as I type this, I'm totally eating those cookies. I mean, I'm young, I can save the dieting and weight freak-outs for when I'm menopausal. That and the fact that Now says he likes my hips just the way they are :) And I really can't blame him, haha.

Also, I realized today that when I make this face, I look kind of like a porcelain doll:

Yeahhh.. ok maybe not. Anyway. Have a lovely evening.

Girl Scout Cookies Are Going To Destroy Me

I think one of my favorite books is "Bridget Jones's Diary" by Helen Fielding. I think it's because I relate so completely to Bridget, right down to the obsessive calorie counting. I may not have a cute British accent nor have the body of Renee Zellweger, but other than that, I think Bridget Jones is my fictional, humorous, full-grown, British counterpart.

And Girl Scout cookies?
My history teacher gave me two boxes today, because I bought them when her adorable daughter approached me with the order sheet and stared at me hopefully with huge puppy-dog eyes, and now I have to find $7 by Friday. Shouldn't be a problem, however I now have two boxes of Thin Mints STARING ME DOWN. They are sitting quietly in their box, whispering "eat me, Julia, eat me" and it is only the calorie content of each cookie that keeps me from doing so.
Did you know that Girl Scout cookies are basically the most calorific cookies in the universe? Thin mints aren't so 'thin' after all! Curse you, irresistable chocolatey mint cookies!

And the thing is, I know I don't even have to worry about my weight until I reach the upper 90's in poundage, but it's not just the number on the scale that bothers me. It's the fact that Lucy weighs 100, which is 15 lbs more than I do, but you'd never be able to tell because she somehow manages to stay rail-thin, while I, who eat very healthily for someone my age, can't seem to shrink my thighs.

The crazy mononucleosis-inuduced diet helped I suppose, but I'm still terrified of waking up one day and finding myself on one of those weight loss reality shows. I don't want to be a fat American!
Yet another reason why I wish I were British.

T-racy

3 am post, let's do this! And this is a happy one, I promise :)

A crazy lady at a bus stop made me sing to her today. There I was, waiting with Cassi to catch the bus to Boulder, and this woman comes up and starts talking to us. We played along until somehow the subject of singing was brought up, and the lady suggested that I go on American Idol and then asked me to sing her something. After exchanging a signofocantly scared glance with Cassi, I regaled the lady with some Mariah Carey. The lady told us that her name was Tracy, pronounced T-racy.

I think she was the most memorable stranger I talked to all day.

Anyway, Cassi and I ended up in Denver, where we had Jesus-burgers (nicknamed as such because they are divinely good) and then bought stuff and walked around. Successful day.

But now it's 3 am and sleep evades me.I entertained myself for a while by cleaning my room and taping things to my door. I finished mydoor, which is to say I completely covered the inner side with stuff. My door has been an ongoing project for quite some time now... It's always in my pictures and I think I mentioned it in the video blog I did forever ago... anyway, it's done and I'm happy.

I'm going to dip-dye the ends of my hair dark pink, I have decided. I'm glad my mono-induced depression is wearing off.

Laaaaahhhhhh (the sound a Jesus-burger makes. You should try one, it'll be a religious experience)

Thinner And Prettier

If there's one thing I know how to do with absolute confidence that I will do it correctly, it's to ruin a good thing. Can't keep a good thing going for too long, because good gets boring, and we can't have that now can we? I am a pro at pushing people away and getting close to people I shouldn't just to keep things interesting. I'm a school counsellor's nightmare.

I've never been too good at the whole morally-based self discipline thing either. Maybe that's why I popped pills at 7 amand wore stilettos to school today. Maybe it's the fact that I can think of nothing but screwing boys who aren't my boyfriend.

But he makes me happy. I keep forgetting that he makes me happy.

It's a very bad thing when I get bored, and bored I am beginning to become. I tend to do stupid albeit exciting shit when I'm bored and who knows what ridiculous thing I'll do to screw this one up, because let's face it, I'm bound to do something. Maybe not. Everything is so flux-y right now.

You know, mono makes you lose weight, and according to the scale in the bathroom I weigh a grand 85 lbs right now. You'd think it'd be a confidence booster to be the skinniest sophomore on the face of the planet, but I just feel like an empty vase. Like someone stole my flowers and poured a bunch of perfume in me to try and compensate for the loss.
Here I am, thinner and prettier.

I think I might dye my hair again, perhaps red this time. Not subtle red, like fire engine squashing cherries red.
Yeah, I think I'd like that.
