Denver High Schools Need To Burn

Be aware that the following post may include, but is not limited to: Excessive swearing, over-use of debate terminology, dancing unicorns, mini Jew rage, french fries, and hugs.

Odd combonation...

So today I competed at a humunganormous (sound it out, you can do it) debate tournament in a districtwe don't usually compete in. I was triple-entered, constantly running back and forth in really painful heels, and have nothing to show for it but a Superior ribbon in one event.

Superior means that you were at least top 10 over all, but not top 6, and only the top 6 get trophies. I. Am. So. Mad. I hate not winning, I hate high heels, and I really really fucking hate the Denver high schools who have infinite funding so they can bribe judges and shit. Gahh. I hate good debaters.

But tomorrow I can sleep all day and not worry about debate points, so that's something...

Details on Now-not-Ex coming soon.

Close To Godliness

According to 90's pop culture, chores are supposed to be, like, gross. Especially the dreaded cleaning of the bedroom (insert screams of terror here). However, my screwed-beyond-repair brain has somehow wired itself to contradict 90's pop culture's perception of this task, and I must say that I genuinely enjoy cleaning my room, I even did it without anyone asking me to, though earlier tonight my room looked like every other teen's room in the world: like a very concentrated magnitude 5 earthquake had hit it (again with the screams of terror).

I find the process of sorting, discarding, organizing, and rearranging to be very relaxing and sort of theraputic. It always puts my life into perspective, because though I may forget sometimes, when I clean I am reminded that my life is merely an accumulation of stuff. Just stuff; clothing, papers, CDs, books, random drawings. I know that there's more to it than that but seeing all of it and how disposable it all is serves as a good reminder of my place in the universe.

I sound so pessimistic! I truly like my little niche in the world, though it may be tiny, it's mine :)

Also, it's always good to have hygenic quarters especially when I spend 90% of my time at home shut up in them. What can I say? I like my quiet time.

In other news, I have a date with Ex on Friday night. And he asked me! I think I may need to stop referring to him as Ex soon... who knows.

PS: I listened to Psapp, who are a delightful British indie band that utilize non-instrument noises in their music the whole time that I was cleaning. Listen to "Hi", "Tricycle", and "Eating Spiders" by them. Do it. NOW.

Jews + Rave = Feathers?

I can hear my dad and my little sister playing Harry Potter Clue in the living room, my little sis just let out a string of champion cursing, I raised her well.

Post time!
Hello beautiful, I know I've been away, but I still adore you.

So despite my not-mono illness, I had a rather fabulous weekend at a Jewish youth group conference. It was 4 days being surrounded by Jews my age, many of whom were rather attractive. In Hicktown, anything that isn't blue-eyed and Christian is an endangered species, so it was a really amazing feeling to be around so many people who are like me. There was a lot of singing and hand-holding and guitar music and charity work.

There's a thing called Havdalah, which is a service for the end of the sabbath (which happens for us Jews on Saturday nights) and the way we did it at the confence was really beautiful, probably my favorite service of the entire weekend, it always is. We all had little candles and stuff.

There's also always a social which is just a dance, and this year it was rave-themed and really fun, although not really accurate. My friends dragged me into this room where a lady was doing hair feathers. I was held down while purple feathers were attatched to my hair. Yeahh..

Anyway, it was a good weekend. How was yours?

I've been listening to a lot of Regina Spektor and She & Him today. I'm pretty much in love with all of their musics respectively. I mean, Regina's piano is pretty beastly and Zooey is a babe. I don't think anyone can disagree with that.

In other news, when I talk I sound like a Cyberman fron Dr. Who. Actually, everything kind of sounds like a Cyberman to me. I asked my father if the world sounded like a Cyberman to him, but he said it's just me. I am mentioning my family a lot in this post, I'll stop that.. Being sick is screwing with my body something fierce, I'm getting a little tired of it :P

Stage 2 Metatastic Throat Cancer

So, my throats been hurting something awful for the past few days, and my inner hypochondriac could only come to one conclusion: Stage 2 throat cancer is metastisizing on my tonsils. However, I went to the doctor today, and well, no throat cancer.

Instead my doc said I either have an awkward strain of strep throat or I have mono. So after 2 throat cultures (the thing where they stick that rod down your throat to swab your fucking windpipe, but not really) and a blood test (which just made my fucking day... I love needles), I get to stay home for the next few days while I wait to see if I have sicknesses that mean I can't kiss anyone for 2 weeks or 2 months.

Gah. If I got mono, I think I'd feel mor elike I had herpes.. what with the not sharing drinks or swapping spit or touching anyone for a month. I really hope I don't have mono, cuz I'm a very touchy-feely person and I think all that isolation might kill me.

Anyway. Hope you had a better day than mine.

Vegetarian Boy

I hung out with Ex today, it went really well.
We walked around Boulder in the snow, talking and joking and discussing really interesting stuff. He kept bringing up bands I've never heard of and films I've never seen. As we dodged snowflakes and hobos, I was reminded how genuinely interesting he is.

We were hanging out in the student center at the CU campus to warm up for a bit, and we found this huge unlocked ballroom on one of the upper floors. It was half-lit and echoey. I think it was normally used for lectures and conferences and stuff. Out of no where, he flung off his jacket and suggested we dance.

So we waltzed in an empty ballroom. I wish I could say I were making it up, but I'm not.

It was a lovely time, and we were holding hands by the time he walked me to the bus stop.
I don't care if he's vegetarian.

Blast From The Past

My little sister is smarter than her peers, which isn't that big of an achievement, however, due to the fact that the school system generally doesn't accomodate the needs of smart kiddos, she is required to take one hour of 'gifted learning' a day. They call it 'gifted learning' so that the stupid kids won't get offended, because 'gifted learning' really means 'my kid is smarter than yours, suck it!'. It's AP for first graders.

Today, I left school early so that I could help her with a project for her 'gifted learning' class. I had to pretend to be Helen of Troy while she 'interviewed' me. As I read awkwardly from her badly typed script in front of the rest of her 'gifted learning' classmates, who goggled at me because apparently they'd never seen a real live teenager before, I couldn't help flashing back to my elementary school days, when I took 'gifted learning'.

After my little sister's presentation was done, I wandered around my old elementary school for little while, saying Hi to my old teachers and thinking that everything in the building was so much smaller than I'd remembered. I even tracked down my old 5th grade teacher, whom I'd kind of hated, and said Hello. Although it wasn't much of a hello, I just sort of stood in the doorway until he looked in that direction, caught his eye, smiled, waved, and walked away.

As I walked home from the school, several thoughts struck me at once.

1) Half my teachers didn't recognize me because of my hair. When I was younger, I had really dark brown hair that was always messy and pushed back from my face. I found the surprised "Oh my goodness, Hello! You've grown up!"s slightly humorous.

2) After hating my 5th grade teacher so fervently, why had I even bothered to track down his classroom if I couldn't bring myself to actually talk to him? I guess, even though I've grown up and really didn't hate him anymore, my habit of not speaking directly too him was still intact.

3) The school building is basically the only building I've ever been in where I've felt tall.

Yeah... I don't miss the school, but it definitly brought back memories of my childhood that I wasn't expecting, like the games I played at recess and the lunch ladies who thought my name was Rosie.

Anyway. Hope you've all had lovely Thrusdays.

Booop booop booooooop (the sound my school's bell makes, except it's not actually a bell, it's more of a beeper...)

Bleachy Bleachy Oh Yes!

I bleached my hair again yesterday, and these are a few of the pictures I took after. My hair is basically 2 shades from being white.

Xmas Break: The Final Evaluation

When one has a longish break such as this one, a final, reflective evaulation of the time spent is always required for the break to be complete, such as no party is truly complete without the hungover, oh-God-who-did-I-hookup-with postmortem the next morning.

So here, for your reading pleasure (and sadistic amusement), I give you Xmas Break: The Final Evaluation

Looking back to the very beginning of the break, I'd say it started out well, with the debate meet in Cheyenne as a nice transition from the academic grind to the relaxed environment. Moving into the more Jesus-centric times, I'd say the namesake holiday went swimmingly and really was a warm and loving time for me. Finally, the New Year's celebrations were exciting and I believe that this year has begun on a rather positive note. Ending break with a bleaching of the hair (yes, again) was a nice touch, and overall this Xmas break has been, in a word, rockin'.

Now let's run the numbers:
Got drunk 3 times, kissed 3 boys, kissed 1 girl (oh, Julia, you sultry minx, you're just getting action from everyone), ate approximately 1 billion Xmas cookies, watched 2 movies in theaters, watched 15 episode of Doctor Who at home, bought 3 incredibly cute articles of clothing, played 6 games of Candyland, and cried 0 times.

It's been a good one, guys.

Alas, school begins again tomorrow, and back into the world of stress I go. Luckily, I've got a musical and a trip to London/Paris to look forward to. If I didn't, I don't know how I'd survive.

Hope your breaks have all been just as awesome!

Zzzzzzzzzp (the sound my neglected schoolbag makes when I open it)

PS: No, I don't have any pets. Does a little sister count?

Weekend Update

The best segement on SNL, although it suffered considerably when Tina Fey left the show. I mean, no one can make rude comments about politicians like Tina can, but hey, maybe I'm just biased. Ok, I'm biased, Tina Fey is my life.

But, getting to the point, seeing as a ton has happened since my last post, I'm going to give y'all a "Weekend Update" in one sentence?

Ready?

Ex replied to the letter with a 'yes' which absolutely made my heart spin, so I celebrated by getting ridiculously drunk with Auburn and Gay Best Friend, which was a lot of fun (drunk Candyland, try it some time) however drinking can lead to stupidity (which it did) so in my celebratory haze, I began texting Cdb, which resulted in me telling him that I do in fact like him and him telling me that he does in fact like me however he doesn't want to do anything about it because he's not sure if he actually likes me or it's just after-hookup shockwaves or something, and then this morning I woke up extremely hungover and played piano, and that's what has changed.

All 1 sentence! BAM!

Slickkkk (the sound slipping on ice makes)

Clusterfuck!

Well, happy New Year. I'm going to state the obvious now: it's 2011. Holy Shit. where did 2010 go?
As promised, bad decisions were made, and a hell of a lot of drinking happened. But hey, it was New Years! So here's the epic tale:

My night involved a lot of craziness with my friend, Auburn (I'm adding to my hair-color collection of friend names :P I've got Blonde, Brunette, and now Auburn pahaha) we initially went to this club in Boulder, but it was much lamer than expected and full of boys who couldn't dance, so we left.

It was on the bus home that she and I orchestrated our next adventure, by calling our buddy and promising to bring alcohol if he would come pick us up. Which we did. My parents never drink, so I had a jug of unopened vodka that they didn't even notice was gone. We ended up at this kid's house with me, driving friend, random kid, and Christian Debate Boy, whom I know from the debate team. It was nerdy, but it was a party :)

After a few shots, Auburn ended up with driving friend, and I with Cdb, random kid was all into his videogames. Gratuitous drunk kissing insues with both couples (seperately, you pervs) but Cdb and I end up talking a lot too. Alas, by this time it is 3am and driving friend must drive Auburn and I home, so home we go, where we both crash like miniature Hindenbergs. My cell phone, like Cinderella's glass shoe, was left at random kid's house.

And here's where the story gets interesting:
We wake up the next morning and both contemplate the night before. We can both agree that the club in Boulder was ridiculously lame. We can also both agree that we are now incredibly hung over. But Auburn was content with her New Year's hookup, leaving things at that. I, on the other hand, woke up (get this) missing Cdb.

When we were talking last night, I was getting some "I like you" vibes from him. And I'm pretty sure I was returning them. But I thought it was just the vodka coursing through my system. So here I am thuroughly confused, and it's now that I realize that I left my phone at that house. I called it and talked to driving friend about returning it to me, and then I tried to ask Cdb how he wanted to regard last night. He gives me no answer, because I'm guessing he's just as thrown as I am.

So, after Auburn leaves for work, I go back to sleep because what else is there to do while I wait for the delivery of my phone. I awake to a doorbell, and open my front door expecting to see driving friend, but it's Cdb. With my phone. Looking like he has something to say. I take my phone, thank him, and say goodbye, because my front door would not be the best place to dicuss the night. Plus I'm not wearing any make up and don't want him to look at me for a prolonged amount of time.

Hours pass aaaaaaaand he texts me. It is at this point where the unthinkable revelation happens: I realize that I like him. He's not Ex, he's not Mwb, he's different... and I like him. I've known him for about a year or so, so it's not that ridiculous of a notion... but something tells me I'm just over-analyzing a hookup.

But what kind of hookup results in missing the guy? That never happens with me, I'm usually a hit em/quit em type of gal. Not to sound slutty or anything. But I am most taken aback by how much I've been thinking about Cdb and our conversation last night.

So that's that, possibly potential. And it is now that I have my first big-time judgement lapse of the year and I send the letter to Ex. I mean, the irony would just be fucking cosmic if he says he wants to get back in touch right as I finally have a perspective guy. Irony like that is just too good to waste.

Although, looking back to a few minutes ago when I sent it, it probably wasn't a good idea because now I am a legitimate risk of cardiac arrest. Not only am I freaking out about how Ex will react to the letter, but I am also in the throws of a long-forgotten ailment: the he likes me/ he likes me not seizures that occur with the introduction of a new guy into one's romantic interests.

So basically, I'm starting off the year with a romantic clusterfuck. Wouldn't have it any other way :)
