College Delusions

I have to admit sort of a nerdy secret: I really want to attend Harvard.

In physics today, we all got into a discussion about college (because physics is easy shit) and when I mentioned that I wanted to do Harvard pre-law, all my friends looked at me like I had just said I wanted to pole dance with small rodents for a living.

Everyone immediately started saying things like:
"Harvard is really selective, don't they only accept geniuses?"
"You have to be perfect to get in!"
"How they hell do you think you could ever pay for that?"
"You should find a back-up school."
"You're not going to Harvard."

That bothers me. My GPA may not be a flawless 4.0, but it is definitely and fairly shiny 3.6 right now, which I plan to bring up during finals and next semester. I do tons of extra-carriculars, including stuff that serves the community. I'm on my school's debate team, for God's sake, Harvard is all over that kind of thing. Oh, and I scored a 32 on the ACT without studying before hand. I'm going to take it again, just to see if I can do better, but still. The average score is a 24.

I am not stupid, nor ill-qualified.

My mom went to Harvard when she was 16 (prodigal child much?), but she only had a 3.7 GPA and her parents were poverty levels of poor. I know times have changed and the admissions process is much more competitive, but I feel like I can do it.

And I looked at the Harvard website, if your family's combined income is less than $75,000 a year, which mine is (we're poor people), tuition is free. Straight up free, no financial aid packages or anything. You still have to pay for books and fees and housing, but tuition itself is completely covered by the university.

My life has revolved around Harvard ever since I was little. I know I might not get in, and I'm applying to several other universities, but my heart is set. I really want to go, because I know that Harvard is the right school for what I want to do with my life, and up to this point I've felt like it wouldn't be a huge issue to get accepted, but now...

I don't know... Am I deluding myself?

Jawbreaker In A Box Of Truffles

Here's a bit of late-night puzzlement for you: Why does the world love outwardly emotional people?

Most people are like truffles, beautiful and complicated on the outside, but once you break past the thin shell, there's a predictably delicious gooey inside.

I feel more like a jawbreaker than a truffle, if that makes any sense.

Most people let their walls down once you get to know them a tad, and then, before you know it, they're sobbing in you arms and telling you their life story, and that's fine. When someone opens up about their life, its a sign of trust and companionship, and you can't go wrong with those.

People love this. Shit, the entire Lifetime Movie Channel revolves around this.

Like, Lucy. Does anyone remember Lucy?
She wears her emotions like jewelry. If she's sad or confused or stressed or even incandescently happy, it's there for everyone to see. She hides nothing and people flock to that kind of openness.

And I sit back, thoroughly puzzled. No one believes me when I say I'm a closed off person, but I am. I'm blunt with my opinions and initial impressions, but when it comes to emotions, mine run deep. I'm guarded. Whatever.

I'm not puzzled at whether being guarded or being open is the better choice, I'm puzzled at the world's general acceptance of complete openness, even though it's vastly annoying the majority of the time.

Why do people enjoy the company of overemotional sods?
Am I wrong for, you know, not?

Ahh Blogger. Help me out here.

ColoRADo

So I was perusing the YouTubes when I came across this adorable hipster-in-the-making. He's quite a talented lil' vlogger. Anyway, he had this video about a trip to Colorado that he took.

You can watch it here.

A lot of the places he goes to are places I've been. Foolish Craig's, the Cherry Creek Mall, DIA, I've even skiied at Vail. It's a little long and the kid talks a lot, but it's got some cool views of the mountains that I see every day.

I don't know. It's a little view into my life, even thought the video is totally about this kid's ski trip. I spent the entire video paying attention to everything in the backround, because it's all familiar. This video was filmed in the scenery of my life. It's a little trippy.

Anyway. It's there if you want to see it.

HOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHIT

Two posts in one day... sorry. I know I'm not supposed to do that. Oh well. I figured this was important enough to break the rule. Hence, the title. I'm still slightly in shock. Oh God... how do I put this...

Fsb's pregnant.

LOL JK.
Ok, seriously.

My Waywardsoulboy returns in a week.

:D
Ok, Julia no one needs your rants. Stop posting them!
Right right. Sorry, I forgot that this is a blog, not a digital therapist.

Anyway. I'm going into uber Jew-shock from lack of money. It is the way of my people to have money. I have none. My world is imploding!

On the bright side, my friend gave me this nail polish that is silver and sparkly and basically looks like sex :D

I should be doing my homework right now...
Hah!

A Caveat

Did I do a single thing on that to-do list I made? Nope. I got sidetracked and.. well...
I had sex with Tbwjf instead. It was apocalyptic.
Maybe I'll actually do all those things tomorrow...

New And Old

The to-do list for today looks something like this:
-go to Denver for the 3rd fucking day in a row and get those goddamned gogo boots once and for all
(The first time, I put them on lay away, which I thought meant that you could take them with you and then pay them off, but it actually means you have to leave them at the store while you pay them off. So I drove all the way down to Denver again yesterday, with $80 in my back pocket, aaaaaand the store is closed on Mondays. Today, I am going to bring those boots home with me if I have to break the the store windows and leave the money on the counter, dammit.)
-cut and/or dye hair
(Because natural beauty is just so boring.)
-Drink tea
-Finalize new high school applications

Oh right, I forgot to tell you guys, I'm going to a new high school part-time next semester, along with Hicktown High.

Basically, this new school offers a super dank program within which I can design my own curriculum, I can take the classes I want and need. Period. If it doesn't fit with my schedule I can take it online along with the rest of my courseload. The best part is, I can stay at Hicktown High for all of the classes that I actually enjoy there. So next semester, my schedule is going to be a glorious clusterfuck of AP, honors, CP, and alternative classes.

I'm staying at Hicktown High for my APs, and for debate. I'm going to this new high school, let's call it Galactic High (cuz it's out of this world!!) for math, science, and this weird seminar class that I have to take. I'm doing French online, which makes me feel like an antisocial homeschooler, but I get to move at my own pace instead of being held back by my class of hispanic, spanish-speaking idiots.

The best part? At GHS, to graduate, I only need 1 full credit of PE as opposed to HHS's 2+ requirement. I'm not anti-PE, in fact I rather enjoy working out because being skinny and being vicious are two of my favorite pass times. But I tend to prefer that my time at school be spent learning, not playing softball. Ivy leagues aren't going to look at my PE credits when they process my applications, they are going to look at my GPA.

Anyway, I only ever took a half-credit's worth of PE at HHS because I was required to in freshman year. But in order to fulfill GHS's requirements, I only need another half credit, and I can do independent study for it. Independent PE. I can take a yoga class to graduate.

Basically, I'm in heaven.

The only thing that I'm at all concerned about is that Fsb goes to GHS. His presence is irrelevant, and it's not going to stop me, but it's a little daunting to know that I am setting myself up for a potential slew of awkward moments next semester.

But I'm happy. This new school basically gives me the best of both worlds when it comes to school: staying with old friends but taking newer, better classes.

Although, looking at the way things have panned out, it's not like I was that close to anyone at HHS anyway. Aside from Lionboy, this year I haven't really been uber tight with anyone. I thought that I was getting tighter with all my musical theatre friends, but I'm realizing that I was sort of deluding myself. I still love them dearly, but I'm definitely not part of the family like I thought I was. Once again, my ability to push people away has worked too well for its own good...

Anyway. Exciting new shit. Life's going to get interesting again, at least for a little while.

For now, off I go, to glory!! Cough... to gogo boots!

They're Called "Fluffies" Not "Fuzzies"

Yesterday was my first speech and debate tournament of the year and I did terribly. Superior ribbons, no placing. Sucks. I think I've lost my touch.

But nothing cures a bad mood like a few wubwubs and some untz untz untz, so I went to a rave with Lionboy and a bunch of other people. It was tiny, we were basically the only people there, but the music were good and I met some really interesting people. And I got named.

One of the things ravers do is that they develop nick names and sometimes entire personas for raves. I don't really turn into a different person when I go to raves, I just let the publicly hidden aspects of my personality shine through a little more. But I got named Mousee because I'm tiny and cute (apparently). So Mousee it is.

Some kid complimented me on my 'fuzzies'. I was like "....que?" I don't think the dude realized that they are called fluffies, not 'fuzzies'. Oh well.

I'm getting gogo boots tomorrow. I'm pumped.

Aside from that, It's officially Thanksgiving break, and life is chill. I'm thinking I might go an impromptu road trip during the last few days. Any suggestions on where I should adventure to?

And Again I Ask Myself

Facebook, you have once again managed to fuck up my lovely evening. Goddammit. If you weren't such a boredom-killer, I'd totally delete my account.

Tonight was going so well. I went to a lovely jazz concert at the Macky Auditorium on the CU campus with my buddy. We talked a lot and the music was fantastic.

And then I come home to this:
"My girlfriend is beautiful, eat your heart out @Julia"

That was his status.

Are you kidding me? Seriously, are you fucking kidding me?

The wrenching disgust subsides and again I ask myself, why do I put up with this bullshit?

In short, the answer is this: I fucking don't.

I deleted him as a friend, I deleted his number form my phone, and I deleted him from my life. He can no longer poke at me and expect a reaction. He is no longer going to be able to stir up theatric shit and mess with my perfectly fine life. And I swear to God, if he even lays a finger on any friendship or relationship that I build from here on out, I will personally destroy him.

Eat YOUR heart out, you masochistic, attention-hungry, not-well-hung son of a bitch.

Hey Little Apple Blossom

Oh hello, 2 am post. I haven't done one of these in a while, but seeing as I came home from school, fell asleep, and slept right up until about 20 minutes ago, I feel like the time has come for yet another late-night blogfest.

Let's do this.

My subject tonight is slightly dark, so if you're looking for humor, look elsewhere.

After I woke up and realized what time it was, I turned on my computer and fired up the old interwebs and Facebook is my home page. Do you know what the first thing I see is? This status from my dear, dear friend:

"My first kiss was my rapist's tongue shoved down my throat. Take that how you wish. All I need is for you gorgeous young women out there to hold onto your innocence. Hold onto it with all your might. Know that you are beautiful. Above all, know that you are so, SO damn strong. Don't ever lose sight of that. Don't let weak people hurt you. Only rapists are weak. Don't let him define you. By God, Kyle, you DON'T define me. I am stronger than you will ever be, you stupid son of a bitch. Ladies, we have the RIGHT to feel. To love. Love with all your might and dream with all you can."

UH. Ok, that's not exactly how I would have liked to find out about the emotional hardship that my friend has been through. Well-written, grammatically correct, and incredibly moving as it may be, this status bothers the Hell out of me.

First, why on Earth would anyone post something so personal on Facebook? I know that's a tad of a hypocritical statement to make, because I have this blog.. but almost no one that I actually know reads this blog. Facebook, though, really? I don't understand how someone could willingly bear their soul to so many people.

But enough about my own issues.

None of you know me in real life so none of you realize just how much this tears me apart. To my friends, I always end up being the one that they go to to rant or to cry or to do both sometimes (I'm a pro at handling messy breakup crying). I hold so many horrific secrets that sometimes I feel as if I'm going to explode, but I don't. And I don't tell. And my friends know that they can trust me to absorb their emotional wreckage when they need to lay down their burden for a time.

I don't know if my friend has ever told anyone about this before, but I know that this is the first time I've heard anything about her being raped. And I'm not offended that she didn't come to me or anything, that's her choice. What's bothering me is that this friend knew I was there, knew she could come to me, because she has before, but didn't.

If she could hide something like this so easily, then what else could she be concealing? I'm worried about her. Genuinely worried for her, for her sanity, for her life.

I know first hand that when people keep secrets for too long, they end up fucked beyond belief. I've been to funerals that shouldn't have had to happen because my friends chose to OD on heroin, shoot themselves in the head, or slit their wrists instead of seeking any kind of help. They did the stupidest possible thing because they didn't realize that they had people to turn to.

I've already told my friend that I'm here for her and I'm willing to provide love, support, and chocolate. I'm still worried though. I know this girl is ridiculously strong and independent, but I don't want to end up at yet another funeral, you know?

Bleh. Gut spill. Sorry about that. I think I'll go back to sleep now.

Dunnanunnanunnanunna BATMAN!

Hi! You're pretty. Let's be friends.

My fingernails are a violently purple shade of magenta right now. I don't know why I chose that color, but after getting home from a boring-as-fuck day at school it just seemed like the thing to do. Maybe it was because I jammed to Bohemian Rhapsody in the car like there was no tomorrow.

Side note: You know that ridiculously high note that some lady hits at the end of the operatic middle section of the song? I can hit that note. Like a boss.

Can I just say that I love driving? I don't know why, but I have the sudden urge to road trip across the country. Maybe I'll do that during Thanksgiving break next week! I haven't gone on a legit epic adventure in a while. When all of my time was getting sucked up by the black hole that is AP and the even bigger black hole that was Les Mis, I didn't have time to be bored.

Now that Les Mis is over, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MY LIFEEE.

I'm in a stasis-like state of being right now. I think I'm inching towards nirvana. I'm content. I'm immobile. I'm watching hours on end of Criminal Minds because I no longer have to be on stage for upwards of 6 hours every day. I can't focus enough to study and I'm avoiding my Euro notes like the plague right now (pun alert! European history... plague... get it? bahahahaha!) and I'm basically losing my mind!

I'm lost and bored and the only thing left for me to do is MAKE my life interesting. I can no longer sit here.

I just want to run down the street singing, you know? Maybe tomorrow I'll pretend I'm Batman.

Watch out world, I'm here to fuck shit up.

The Streets Are Bare And Everywhere The Trees Are Full Of Strangers

Les Mis closes today. I can't believe it. All this work and stress for 4 shows total. It's a little ridiculous, but it's been so much fun. I'm a little nervous because basically everyone important to me is coming to the last show today.

My throat is a little shot from last night's extremely chill but extremely illegal activities. Last night was nothing special, no adventures, just an average Hicktown Staturday night: drinking in the hot tub of a rich buddy.

If you know Les Miserables, then you know that the title is a play on words of one of the songs that my character sings. It's called "On My Own" and the actual line is "the trees are bare and everywhere the streets are full of strangers" but we discovered during rehearsal, much to our delight, that by switching 'trees' and 'streets' you end up with a rather funny statement.

Anyway, this is a picture from Friday's show:

"Hi, I'm Eponine and I die in act 2."

My friend who play Marius always cries during that scene. It's a killer. The guy who play Jean Valjean (for those of you who aren't familiar, he is the main character and he dies at the end) always cries during the last scene too. I didn't know he was going to do that, and at one point in the scene I'm supposed to walk up beside him and take his hand, so when I did that during our first performance, he looked up into my eyes and I saw tears all over his face and I almost missed my cue. He threw me for a loop there, wasn't expecting that. Pahaha.

It's ok, though, because we always get the audience sobbing by that final number. I think this is possibly the best production I've ever been in.

I'm happy the production is ending, but I don't want it to be over quite yet, you know?

Off to pound some tea with an ungodly amount of honey. Peace bro.

A Very Special Day

Here is a list of why today is special:

1) At 11:11, I made a super duper wish. I feel like everyone made a super duper wish too, so I hope all the wishing networks were still open and didn't crash due to overcrowding, like gaming servers and Ticketmaster do. I hope my super duper wish wasn't wasted...

2) It's Veteran's Day! Yay veterans.

3) Today happens to be a very special anniversary. Exactly one year ago today I went on a ridiculous adventure, terminated the ol' v-card, and well you can read about it in this post. If you want to, of course.

4) I left school half an hour early, on a whim, because my last class of the day is physics. I'm a beast at physics. I got all of the work done and the teacher had nothing else for me to do, so I asked if I could go to the library. On my way to the library, I changed my mind and went to my car instead. Now I'm home early and it's lovely.

5) Les Mis goes up tonight. I'm freaking the fuck out. I may or may not have a heart attack from excitement.

6) Fsb got a girlfriend, and it's not Qv! I see this as a victory. As I said before, I have no interest in him romantically, I just want him to be happy and not dead, and the fact that he's with a non-toxic girl gives me a tiny amount of solace.

7) Did I mention that Les Mis is going to be performed in a few short hours?

That's all.

Oh, Joy...

I came home from school to find that a raver buddy of mine had tagged me in a photo on Facebook. Normally, I wouldn't care, but this picture was from that Alice in Wonderland rave, and if any of you remember the picture I posted of the outfit I had for that... not so appropriate for Facebook where my teachers and employer are my friends.

I know my friend meant well, but he could have potentially put me in a very sticky situation. I love the picture, but I had to untag myself. Not so fun. It was a great picture too, of me and Ember joking around, grinning like idiots.

The next big rave isn't until December. I'm going to try to find at least one or two to go to before this month ends, but I might just have to wait. Sighhh. I don't like not raving on the weekends. Parties are fun and all, but raves are a community, and to be honest I'd much rather rave than go to a party and get drunk.

I'm beginning to see that alcohol just makes people sloppy and stupid. On molly, at least you're competent, albeit a sort of overexcited and touchy-feely competence.

Side note:
If any of you ever find yourselves here is freezing-ass Colorado, hit me up, we'll go raving :)

In other news, my shows goes up tomorrow. I'm dying from stress and my husky/smoker voice is back in full force. Cue major freaking out and tea chugging. I have to sing a whole show 3 times; I needz mah voice.

I'm really excited though. I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this show, and I won't lie, I'm very ready for it to be over. I love my cast and I'm super pumped to finally perform in front of people.

Another side note:
There's this guy I've been talking to a lot lately, we're going to call him Shypartyboy (Spb from now on, y'all know the drill). I met him at a party a little while ago. He's very nice, and we've hung out once since then, and he texts me 'good morning' every night. It's very cute. Anyway, he might be coming to see the show on Friday. Sweet Jesus I might just die.

So yeah.

How's your life been lately?

Questions Answered

It finally worked!! It's short and very low quality, sorry guys!

Buuuuut if you wanna see me ramble awkwardly for 5 minutes, click here, and you shall.

To everyone who left questions, thanks, and I'm sorry I couldn't give more extended answers. The first 3 times I tried filming this, my internet would sabotage me about half-way through, so I kept it short. I might make another one of these far far far down the road... so yeah. I hope you like it at least a little bit.

Stifling

The Mackey Auditorium at the University of Colorado is one of my favorite theaters. The entire thing is painted this Easter egg pink on the inside and there are these grimy windows that let in yellowy light above the balconies. Plus, the acoustics are sublime.

I spent today at the Mackey for a choir festival thing. The festival sucked, but we got to see an operatic duet performed by two of the university music faculty, and that was fantastic. I love opera. It's one of my weird vices. I'm a sucker for a good opera.

Anyway.

Still rocking the man voice, although now it's more sexy than painful. I'm developing a sensual husk when I speak. It's quite entertaining, especially when I talk to guys.

And in this small town, there's not much entertainment but guys...

I'm still swag-jacking like a ninja! If you haven't left me questions yet, please do!

Swag-Jacking Like The Best Of Them...

I am rocking a hella man voice right now.

I sound like I've been smoking a pack a day for the past 20 years. After the rave, I just got laid the fuck out by this insane cold. Luckily, I can prop myself up on sudaphedrine and dextramathorphan for school and stuff. Even though meds are keeping me conscious and breathing, I still sound like Sexy Sadie from Across the Universe. Not so fun.

Which is just great, because today marks the beginning of hell week for Les Mis, which is actually going to be 2 weeks long. I don't know why hell week is starting a week in advance, but whatever. From here on in I have 4-6 hour rehearsals every day leading up to opening night, plus a few all day ones on the weekends.

I'm a lead and I can barely talk right now, let alone sing. Wheeeeeeeee!

Anyway. Enough bitching.
Swag-jack time.

I've seen people doing this, and it looks like funzies, so I'm going to be a copy-cat and jack their swag, sorry Christopher and Lizzie!

If you leave me questions in the comments, I will make a Q&A video answering them ^.^
