Beauty In The Oddest Places

Sweet fucking Rocket Jesus, what a relief. Now that finals are over, I feel as if my life has improved significantly and I no longer want to shoot myself in the face with a staple gun. Because, you know, finals will do that to you..

Anyway, for the next two weeks, I can disregard the unnecessary stuff in my life like school, work, commitments, and personal hygiene and focus on the truly important things: dyeing my hair a new color (or three), reading French Vogue, making kandi, and eating chocolate. You know, the things that matter. Heh.

I realized today that I enjoy driving far too much. I wasted about a quarter tank just driving around highways I've never been on and roads through the farm-filled rural expanses that fill Colorado as soon as you get a few miles away from the little hick towns and wannabe cities.

I hate to admit it, but the place I live in is really beautiful. I might actually miss it once I finally escape this life of stressful monotony. When sunrise and sunset turn the sky orange and pink and tint the mountains a frosty peach color, it's hard to imagine ever looking at a different sky or a mountain-less horizon; but it'll happen some day.

Anyway, all this driving got me thinking, I'm realizing more and more that the most beautiful things are found in the oddest places. I've compiled a short (really, I mean it this time) list of random things that I find pretty:
-dandelions
-exotic woven scarves
-the lights of a city at night when you can see it from the highway
-string wraps in people's hair
-faux fur
-when people write with lipstick on a mirror
-shitty Kodak photographs taken in the 90's
-the way urban shops look all packed together
-corn fields
-bonfires
-beat up, well loved shoes
-the ember on cigarettes at night
-violins

Yeah.. I'm feeling a little Luna Lovegood-like today. Without the stress of everything weighing me down, my thoughts are a tad lofty.

I really just want to get a cheap lomo camera and a new pack of cigarettes and go frolic in a field somewhere with a few friends and take pictures like in the Urban Outfitters ads. You know? Like, just go and take random pictures like all the beautiful California hipsters do on 'Young, Broke, and Beautiful'.

Wow do I sound ridiculous.

Hope you've all had a lovely Friday.
Julia

  1. Ahh, the relief of exams being over! Ours aren't until January, but we do have the holiday break in only a few short days. At that time, I plan on enjoying the same things (particularly lack of hygiene!!). (Please don't judge me).
