לעולם לא נשכח.

It's Holocaust Memorial Day in Israel today. The holiday is called Yom Hashoah here in the states.

As the grandchild and niece of several Holocaust survivors, I've always held this day in this weird spot in my mind where I know it's serious, but I kind of don't care. I grew up on the firsthand accounts of victims and I feel like I've heard it all when it comes to oh-poor-European-Jew stories.

I mean, the whole thing was an atrocity and scar on the face of our history, but guess I'm just numb to the whole shock factor of the Holocaust after hearing about it for so long...

Just my thoughts today.

  1. My grandpa was Polish Jewish, and grew up in New Jersey, so I didn't really hear too much about the Holocaust. I did hear a lot about Meyer Lansky though.
